Knocknarea, Sligo

D203_P8130126CairnWEB I climbed Knocknarea which is a 1,000 foot limestone hill outside of Sligo. At the top there is this Cairn which has not been excavated but some suspect it may contain a neolilthic tomb. Apparently, this tourist can't read.

The views from the top of Knocknarea were amazing looking out to Sligo Bay and the Atlantic. Here you get a good sense of Irish green…40 shades according to Johnny Cash's famous song.

McHugh's, Sligo

D200_P8130069 I'd like to point out that this photo was taken at 11pm on a Wednesday night. The Irish know how to have a good time. OK, so there's a major music festival going on, Fleadh Cheoil, which a Sligo chap told me draws 400,000 to this normally sleepy town of 20,000. I hit several pubs where fiddling, singing, Irish dancing, and, of course Guiness drinking were going on until wee hours. I called it quits at 2AM and folks were just barely starting to slow down.
